Caroline Leander was born in Lund, Sweden and started her musical training at the age of 6. Her starting-point was the piano, later on adding voice and accordeon, she has worked as a free-lance musician in extensive musical contexts. 18 years old, she started her career at Malmö Theatre Academy transforming Verdis ”La Traviata” to solo piano in the theatre-play “the Lady of the camellias”.

Ever since, Caroline has frequently appeared on stages of dance and theatre as a pianist, composer and conductor.

Between -85 and -87 she studied at the Folk-highschool of Skurup, then continued to Italy and Greece, where she was touring with differnet groups based on jazz and improvised music.

A part from clubs and theatres she also performed on stages like Umbria Jazz Festival and Patras Jazz Festival.

In the beginning of the 90’s Caroline returned to Sweden and Malmö, where she formed her own band.

Since then she has released 3 CD:s with her own material and she has participated in many other recordings.

Her Swedish band has performed in clubs and festivals in Sweden and parts of Europe, for ex Skeppsholmsfestivalen (Swe), Pori Jazz (Fin), plus several tours in Germany and Italy. During this period she also studied at Malmö Music Academy.

Since 2000 Caroline collaborates with the French singer and guitarist Ann Marie Teinturier in the French-sounding duo Prunes, working in Sweden, Denmark and France. They have played in theatres, clubs and festivals like Victoriateatern, Malmöfestivalen and Visfestivalen in Västervik. Prunes has released several albums, the latest with their own songs.

This resulted in an invitation to the French national radio(France Culture) for a live concert and reportage.

2010 she released a new album, Under my heart, which was very well received by the press, including nomination for the Golden Record in Orkesterjournalen. She formed her new group with Anders Lorentzi (bass) and Bo Håkanson (drums/percussion). The 12 songs embrace singer songwriter, pop and jazz with room for sounds and colours from marimba, vibrafon, cello and flugelhorn.

The band was expanded with guitarist Peter Tegner and gave concerts at  Jazz Under the Stars in Brantevik, Mejeriet in Lund and at Fasching Jazz Club in Stockholm.

Caroline  received a scholarship from SKAP (Sweden kompisitörer of popular music)

In 2011 she wrote and arranged music together with the singer Felicia Konrad, which resulted in Felicia’s live and CDprojekt “Cosmic Wash Over” and she was working on her upcoming album “Melting Into happiness.”
